The largest and most important project I was involved with at CBC was updating the CMS that CBC journalists used to publish articles efficiently, as well as share articles within other departments. A large team of dedicated individuals which included Architects, Java developers, front end developers, QA and Information Architects made it possible to upgrade the publishing system using OOCSS techniques and a more "bootstrap" approach to the front end code.
CBC Sports is a fast paced environment that requires forward thinking to allow for easier maintenance. I was heavily involved with front-end template development for the "Big 5" sports stats sites, which included creating Freemarker templates to be processed by CBC's in-house stats ingestion service for a variety of player, team, game, schedule, and stats leaders pages. In addition, I developed some JS to work with a 3rd party ingestion service that allowed NHL video highlights to be filtered properly by game, player, and team.
One of my first projects at CBC where I was brought in at the tail end of the project. I was involved in the QA cycle fixing any last minute bugs that came up while integrating the site with FileMobile's API. This is a user-driven community site that allows users to integrate their Facebook profiles and share uploaded photos and locations around Canada. In addition, promotional pieces were available to news articles to encourage users to upload photos based on the content of the article.
CBC announced a KW station in which a website portal would be available for its listeners. The development for the region required a lot of organized launches of pieces in order to minimize disruptions for any CBC ad-hoc releases. This microsite required the addition of new radio station streams, schedule timetable updates, a new article queue, weather forecast updates and various links to be added around the site. The site was completed with two developers and QA resources.
I was responsible for creating the templates from PSDs, as well as integrating Flash Code into the homepage. In addition to this, I had to integrate Facebook's sharing API which allowed users to share specific articles with their friends.
I was responsible for quick fixes and updates, working on several of the static about pages, as well as working with french translators to have the site working.
Created several landing pages, promotional pages, and provided Web Analytics for traffic analysis. I also created a tool to speed up the development process, mainly through a JQuery page that could create stylised HTML content.
Design and development for Unity Business, provided three initial designs and added more content as was required. provded some maintenance for a short time role, added PDF files for their products pages.
Design and development for Gillespie Digital Solutions. Kept their design simple as requested, utilizing a strong bold red as their main header.
Printer Works West redesign and simplified their navigational system. This project has been completed and delivered, however it is currently not live, due to unknown reasons (I'm also not working for Ingram Micro anymore, so this baffles me).
Redesign and created template pages to be completed by their internal backend development team. Mimicked Apple's "Cover Flow" with a JQuery plugin that turned out to be very well-received.
Start-up I temporarily worked at during a freelance gig; Provided Design, branding and development for a news aggregator that would update every 15 minutes with the latest headlines depending on category of interest. UI was optimized to house a huge amount of data to be scanned by a user quickly. This website has been taken offline though.
Design, Development of Real Estate company for housing in Costa Rica. Provided several nice showcases and significantly improved the load time of the site (due to the original Flash-heavy version). The site has been redeveloped, but I have provided a working link of the prototype.
Sister site to Costa Rica Estates, for a specific real estate development project.
Provided branding, redesign, and development for a career coaching site in Toronto. This was another freelance gig that allowed me to interface with clients on a constant basis, and the overall results were very well received.
Freelance gig where I was responsible for redesigning the UI, and to improve the home page to make it more "Web 2.0" as requested.
Currently a personal project of mine to further my Flash development skills. You can try playing the game if you wish, and please leave a comment!
No, I didn't work for YouTube. But I did play around with its Javascript API after I discovered (yet another) video where the audio was completely out of sync. I built this as a solution that I wish YouTube would implement. Try it out: you can load any video from YouTube and this tool gives you the power to fix the audio. I may expand this to other video platforms, depending if users demand it.
